Thanks to the support of exclusive sponsor Mount Sinai Medical Center (the prestigious Mount Sinai hospital) and the support of Destination Brands International, sunscreen dispensers have been installed in public pools, parks and at several beaches, so that visitors to Miami Beach can use them for free. With the city’s centennial celebration on March 26, the launch of the program comes just in time to become a birthday present to the community on its 100th anniversary.
“As the fun and sun capital of the world, people in Miami engage in so many outdoor activities, from relaxing on the beach to playing in parks or on outdoor courts, and doing so without protection can lead to skin burns, which are the biggest cause of skin cancer,” said the Miami Beach city manager, Jimmy Morales. “Public safety is a priority for us and we offer this service because we care.”
According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, accounting for nearly half of all cancers that occur in the United States. More than 3.5 million cases of basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer are diagnosed each year in the country. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, of which it is estimated that more than 73,000 cases will be detected in 2015. “_Así as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the City of Miami Beach, Mount Sinai Medial Center is also proud to be an institution that has been working in Miami Beach for more than 65 years.
We are excited to be able to offer these free sunscreen dispensers as part of our commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community and our visitantes._” Steve Sonenreich, President and CEO of Mount Sinai The sunscreen that will be provided in the dispensers is the MB Miami Beach Triple Action Seaweed. The lightweight, non-greasy and fast-absorbing cream has a protective factor 30, broad spectrum to protect from UVA and UVB rays for 80 minutes, and is also water resistant. Seaweed offers unique benefits by helping to restore proteins and minerals that the skin loses in the sun, improving the appearance of the skin and helping it protect against aging.
