Between sparkling evenings by the pool, world-renowned fairs, new businesses and late-night parties, Miami’s fierce fashion scene never lowers its shutters.

THE SPRING SHOW

Miami Fashion Week

Every March, the Miami Beach Convention Center celebrates Miami Fashion Week, an institution in the field of international trends. The influence of Miami Fashion Week goes beyond the expected swimsuit. As the largest fashion week in the region, Miami Fashion Week showcases a staggering amount of Caribbean and Latin American designs in department stores selling evening wear, denim, jewelry and children’s clothing. Miami Fashion Week’s Wedding Pavilion is an invaluable resource for brides-to-be, bridal buyers or wedding planners who are eager to plan ahead. General tickets start at $50 per show, while front-row VIP tickets cost $  500 per show and include a behind-the-scenes experience.

Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach

During spring, bright and bold prints reign supreme at Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach. This four-day event fuses fashion and music to offer a tantalizing tailoring presentation. The Funkshion exhibition is held in parallel, and a few blocks from Miami Fashion Week. Here, new designers have great media exposure. Established brands like Chloé use Funkshion’s platform to present their secondary collections, which tend to be more accessible and moderately priced. Music greatly influences every presentation on the runway, as designers personally select the DJs who will play while their models parade. The accompaniments usually honor the origins of the artist: Latin America, New York, Milan or Paris. Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach leaves the purchasing power in the hands of the public, as admission to the shows is free and the items on display are immediately available in stores.

EXTRAVAGANT WINTER FASHION

Art Basel

In theory, this is not a fashion event. But Art Basel has a great influence on fashion and vice versa. Especially when luxury brands like Chanel, Dior and Valentino move to Miami every December for this star-studded art fair, where extravagant theme parties are held and tickets are extremely hard to come by. Famous fashion photographers like Terry Richardson and Bruce Weber mingle and socialize with fans at book signings while fashion brands like Net-a-Porter and Harper’s Bazaar offer guests a personalized and unique shopping experience. Vogue, W and Vanity Fair take over the city’s galleries to host parties with exclusive guests, along with creative Basel-goers. They all compete for the attention of street style photographers and their daring style. Where else will you see fashion superstars, Mickey Mouse shoes, graffiti and Prada sharing attention at a single party?
