It’s no secret that Miami is widely regarded as the hub between Europe and the Americas, with South Beach as its glamorous epicenter. That is why it is not surprising that our city was chosen, fourteen years ago, as the venue for the largest Hispanic fashion event in the United States, Miami Beach International Fashion Week (MBIFW).

This year, the event, which will be held March 21-24 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, is proud to welcome music legend and style icon, Dionne Warwick, who will share her experience in the world of celebrity and fashion with Miami. An idol in the music industry for more than four decades, Dionne will host a media seminar for students and designers where she will talk about her life, her style, and how to succeed in what everyone is passionate about. Warwick learned all about her own personal style from one of Hollywood’s all-time greats, Marlene Dietrich.

MBIFW is Miami’s oldest fashion event and has received worldwide recognition and fame for discovering and showcasing the best of fashion from all over the world, among eminent designers, celebrities and musicians from almost every continent. For a week, buyers and consumers have a unique opportunity to learn about the work of great promises of global design who have forged illustrious careers in the United States. The event is often the first opportunity for fashion industry experts to get a glimpse of designers who will soon present in their own magazines, shops and wardrobes.

“Over the years, discovering the world’s best emerging designers has been a wonderful and exciting experience. By creating this international platform, which has allowed these designers to be seen around the world, we have helped launch their careers to a higher level,” explains former international model and MBIFW President Beth Sobol. “Many of our young designers, including Colombians Esteban Cortázar and Silvia Tcherassi, Peruvian Sitka Semsch, Chilean Rubén Campos, Indians Manish Arora and Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Furne One for Dubai’s Amato Couture and Trinidad and Tobago’s Heather Jones are just some of the fashion industry stars who have come out of our catwalks.”

This year’s list of events, designers and artists promises all the excitement the fashion world has come to expect from this prestigious event. Some of the highlights include the “Miami Style Showcase,” featuring Florida’s top designers, including
Viviana G of Petit Pois
, Ema Savahl Couture and Kayce Armstrong of Art of Shade, among others. The “Prêt-A-Porter Showcase” will feature the winner of Bolivia’s “Misión Moda”, Banja Luka’s designer exhibition with Marina Banovic, Liliana Majkic, and Davor Sladakovic from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro, the Council’s Latin Fashion Weeks exhibition featuring top designers from across Latin America, and much more.

In addition, for the first time in the United States, designer Walla Al Alawi from the Kingdom of Bahrain, widely regarded as the driving force behind fashion in the Persian Gulf region, will grace the runways with her latest collection. Walla’s clients include numerous members of the Gulf royal families and his designs have already been selected by Bahrain’s Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition to Mrs. Warwick, there will be celebrity performances by Grammy Award-winning music producer Damon Elliott and the Miami Moda & Music Award will feature an exhibition of red carpet dresses designed by the great Nicolas Felizola and worn by some of the biggest stars in Hollywood and Latin America. There will also be a special performance by top model and face of Lancôme Russia, Dasha, who will perform her new hit, “The Prfct Girl”.

Miami Beach International Fashion Week is considered the fifth largest and most important event in the global fashion calendar. Beth Sobol and her team spend the entire year touring the world to discover the best and most creative designers from hundreds of countries and invite them to present their collections on the South Beach runway. In recent years, designers have come from the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In 2011, MBIFW brought together 55 designers from 32 countries, 650 international media outlets and received more than 740 million media impressions worldwide globally.
