Riu Hotels has finally invested 17 million euros (20 million dollars), and not 11 as initially announced, in the refurbishment of the former Riu Florida Beach hotel that has just opened its doors, becoming the chain’s first urban establishment in the US, the Riu Plaza Miami Beach .
The hotel has maintained its façade but the structure and interior design has been changed to adapt them to the Riu Plaza line . The number of rooms has remained the same, with 284, but in them the design and bathroom have been changed. In addition, a new ‘chill out’ area, a food and drinks stand to take away and a new snack bar by the pool have been created.
Located on Collins Avenue and with direct access to Miami Beach’s promenade and beach, Riu Plaza Miami Beach features free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and a gym.
At the end of 2015, Riu will open its second Plaza hotel in Manhattan on US soil. The Riu Plaza New York Times Square is still under construction. Outside Spain, the company also has the Riu Plaza in Panama and Guadalajara (Mexico) as well as the Riu Plaza Berlin, which will also open this year.
