British rocker Phil Collins has bought a large mansion in Miami Beach that once belonged to Jennifer Lopez for $33 million, real estate agents involved in the transaction said Tuesday.

“It’s true, Mr. Collins bought this house,” Mathieu Rochette of Barclay’s Real Estate Group, who represented Collins in the purchase, told AFP.

Miami Beach Mansion: Property Highlights

The mansion, built in the late 1920s and with more than 1,100 square meters, rests on a plot of almost 5,000 square meters in an exclusive area of Miami Beach, Florida (southeast of U.S.) with sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the city skyline of Miami.

“It’s spectacular, one of the best homes in Miami,” Rochette said. In addition to having its own jetty, swimming pool and pond for koi fish, the house has seven rooms.

The house was sold to Collins, one of the highest-grossing artists of the ’80s, by businessman Mark Gainor, said his real estate agent Nelson Gonzalez of EWM Realty International.

Gainor bought the property “in 2005, it was Jennifer Lopez’s house, and he basically rebuilt the house and did it in a contemporary European style,” Gonzalez said.

The businessman had acquired the property of the New York singer of Puerto Rican origin for 13.5 million dollars. Now he’s decided to sell because he’s moving to California, Gonzalez said.

One of the attractions that convinced Collins was the privacy of the mansion, since it is located on “a large piece of land that is covered on all sides by trees,” Rochette said.

Phil Collins, who has sold more than 100 million solo albums and another 150 million with his band Genesis, wanted to spend more time with his two children who live in Miami, the agent said, so he took advantage of the large supply of homes for sale in Miami.

Collins, 64 and retired from music since 2011, also often participates in the city of Florida (southeast of the USA) in charitable activities of his foundation Little Dreams, which helps young people in the arts and sports.

The rocker will have Bee Gees star Barry Gibb as a neighbor, according to the South Florida Business Journal.
