Get to know here the places that you can not miss in this neighborhood of Miami.
The Essentials of South Beach
South Beach (SoBe) is located on a barrier island, which is connected to Miami via causeways. Its iconic beach area runs from the south of the island to 26th Street and has three main areas (Benowitz, 2020):
- South Pointe Park & Beach. This park offers panoramic views of PortMiami, Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. In addition, there is a family beach.
- The Art Deco District and Ocean Drive. This location brings together buildings of the famous Art Deco style and multiple places to eat, drink and enjoy the characteristic relaxed atmosphere of SoBe.
- Beaches north of Lincoln Road. This upscale area is home to hotels, boutiques, art galleries and cafes.
Shopping and gastronomy paradises
Florida is known for its shopping destinations, such as Aventura Mall, Sawgrass Mills , and Disney Springs. South Beach is no slouch. Also visit the following destinations:
Lincoln Road
It offers shops for all interests. It also has restaurants and outdoor cafes and a farmer’s market during the weekends (Caraway-Carlton, 2021).
Nearby, you can enjoy international cuisine at Española Way. This road has Italian, Brazilian, Mexican restaurants and more, which also liven up the nights with live music (Caraway-Carlton, 2021).
Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue
South Beach is synonymous with luxury and fashion. Therefore, its most representative street, Ocean Drive, is full of designer shops (Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, n.d.). It is even home to the Versace mansion, which is today an exclusive boutique hotel that retains the characteristic style of its most famous owner: designer Gianni Versace (Benowitz, 2018).
On the other hand, Collins Avenue is the capital of cool. Its stores are always at the forefront of the latest trends, especially those of the youngest and most adventurous with their style (Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, n.d.).
Legendary nightlife
Today, there are bars and clubs in different places in SoBe. It is noteworthy that three of the best nightclubs in all of Miami are there: Story, Icon and Liv, famous for being frequented by celebrities and being the scene of world-class DJs (Civitatis, n.d. Franker, 2021).
Additionally, the area has multiple cocktail bars in luxurious hotels. For the more relaxed it also offers underground bars, such as Lost Weekend or the legendary Club Deuce (Franker, 2021).
Beach Locations
Without a doubt, the beaches are the signature of South Beach. There, tanning on the white sand and sailing or surfing the turquoise waters are just the beginning. The area is famous for its beach businesses, offering unparalleled food, drinks, music and parties. Some of the most popular are Nikki Beach and 1 Hotel South Beach’s Wave Club (O’Neill, 2021).
Must-see parks
In keeping with the Miami lifestyle, SoBe has sites designed to enjoy the outdoors. This is the case of its parks, which combine the charm of the climate and the spirit of the city.
Lummus Park
A true urban oasis, this park is located between the beach and Ocean Drive. There you can rest, skate, ride a bike, play sports and exercise. There are also areas for children (Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, n.d.).
Haulover Park
This park is the scene of multiple outdoor activities. In the water, it is perfect for swimming, fishing and practicing aquatic disciplines. On land, it is ideal for flying kites. Also for skating and biking, as it has specialized rinks (Miami-Dade County, 2021). As you can see, South Beach is an area with a great tourist attraction. It offers a wide range of activities for all tastes, as well as conquering views. Without a doubt, the experience of living Miami is not complete without a visit there.
