The cruise company Norwegian plans to build a new terminal of 15,442 square meters in the port of the city of Miami, in southeast Florida, a work that is scheduled to begin next May and conclude in 2019, local media reported today.
The new terminal will have the capacity to accommodate ships of up to 5,000 passengers; It will have indoor and outdoor waiting areas and technology to embark and disembark more quickly, according to the South Florida Business Journal.
The plan was announced by representatives of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. during the ‘Seatrade Cruise Global’, considered the largest cruise fair in the world, held in the city of Fort Lauderdale, north of Miami.
The pearl-shaped structure, designed by Miami-based Bermello Ajamil & Partners, is expected to open to coincide with Norwegian Encore’s Caribbean voyage, still under construction.
The new facility, in which the Port of Miami has invested about one hundred million dollars, “will be a real experience,” said Frank Del Rio, general manager of Norwegian. The new terminal will also have parking, a faster security control.
Norwegian, which receives about one million passengers annually in the port of Miami , does not have its own terminal for its three cruise lines, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
