Pembroke Pines City, Florida was incorporated as a city in Broward County in 1960. It was annexed from a west extension by the square miles acquired by North Perry Airport and South Florida State Hospital to its west. A well-known developer named Joseph La Croix agreed to have his 320 acres north of Piners Boulevard and the Davie Highway Extension linked him to the city. This decision gave it a small town in its perfect form of expansion to the west. CB Smith Park on Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road were parts of this annex and doubled the size of the city significantly as a result. Pembroke Pines has grown tremendously since then. The city has impressive parks and all kinds of recreational areas that contain a large number of activities for children and adults in which professional sports are also included. Pembroke still maintains the gift of being a fine residential community with all kinds of homes: cottages, condominiums, family homes and apartments. The city also has professional fire and police stations to protect residents and visitors. Pembroke Pines obtained its first school system and currently provides education to children in three elementary, two middle and one high school. The student population is overcrowded so a large institution called Charles Flanagan collaborates with the area west of Pembroke Pines in Broward County. Pembroke Pines maintains its growth purposes as an attractive place to live, play and work.
